Earthquake Magnitude 6.0 Shakes Southern coast of W.Sumatra PDF Print E-mail

Padang, (Antara News) - A tectonic earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter Scale (SR) jolted the southern coastal region west of Sumatra on Sunday evening at approximately 19:17, which might also felt in Padang , The provincial capital of West Sumatra.

Contacted from Padang, Sumarsono, the head of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency in Padang Panjang, said the epicentre of the quake was about 73 km southeast of Muko-muko (Bengkulu) at a depth of 15 km below sea level .


The location of earthquake was at 3.16 degrees south latitude and 101.45 degrees east longitude.

He said that the tremblor was clearly felt in southern coastal areas of West Sumatra, but it had no potential to cause a tsunami.
